Managing a Domain Name's Subdomains
You can manage subdomains that are not forwarded through the Total DNS section of the Domain Manager Detail screen. See Managing a Domain Name's Forwarded Subdomains for more information about managing forwarded subdomains.
Subdomains are extensions of your own domain name(s) that you can forward to URLs or point to IP addresses and directories in your hosting account. For example, if your domain name is example.com, you can create the subdomain subdomain.example.com that resolves to a specific website residing in a subdirectory of your hosting account.
You can add multiple levels of subdomains. For example, you can add another.subdomain.example.com. Subdomains can be up to 25 characters long.
Creating a Non-Forwarded Subdomain
Here are instructions to create a new subdomain. This will not forward the new subdomain. Instead, it creates a subdomain reachable at a separate IP address.
To Create a Non-Forwarded Subdomain
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
- Click the domain name you want to edit.
- In the Total DNS section, click Total DNS Control.
- In the A (Host) section, click Add New A Record.
- Complete the following, and then click OK twice:
- Host Name — The host name the A record links to. Enter @ to map the record directly to your domain name.
- Points to IP Address — The IP address your domain name uses for this host record.
- TTL — How long the server should cache the information.
