Search engines use proprietary ranking algorithms, and Web directories rely on human editors. There is no guarantee that submitting your website to a particular search engine or directory produces a high ranking.
There are several things you can do to increase your search engine ranking:
- Use clear, concise title, description, and keyword meta tags.
- Ensure proper use of HTML heading tags (h1, h2, h3, etc.).
- Use alt tags on images.
- Make regular updates to your website.
- Resubmit your domain name after large updates.
Keep in mind that it might take six to eight weeks for your updates to affect your search engine ranking.
