Whonami-Domain backorders service does not guarantee domain name registration

The Domain Backorders service does not guarantee you will acquire a domain name. When you place a backorder, we attempt to acquire the domain name for you when it becomes available for registration.

Each backorder comes with Domain Monitoring, a useful service that lets you track the domain name. It keeps you in the loop on that domain name’s expiration date and any changes to its status.

If a backordered domain name becomes available, but our service fails to acquire it, you can reassign the backorder to another domain name or request a refund from our support team. If we are not able to acquire your domain name, we notify you by email.

Whonami-What can you change a backorder to a different domain name?

You can change your Domain Backorders service to a different domain name as long as the backorder remains active. Domain Backorders remain active until they capture a domain name or you manually cancel them.

If you have not yet set up a backorder, see Setting up Domain Backorders for more information.

Whonami-What does domain name mean?

Domain names were created to make IP, or Internet Protocol, addresses more human-friendly. An IP address is a unique set of numbers that is assigned to every computer on the Internet. Think of IP addresses like street addresses – they identify where a computer is located on the Internet and help route information so that it can easily travel between computers. But IP addresses, like this one, don’t exactly roll of your tongue, do they?

And then just imagine having to memorize such a string of – seemingly random numbers for every single website you wanted to find on the Internet. If only there was an easier way. Actually, there is.

While computers require IP addresses to locate one another, we humans can use domain names. The Domain Name System, or DNS [D-N-S], takes domain names — the kind of web addresses that people understand, like whonami.com — and translates them into IP addresses that computers need to communicate.

When visitors enter your domain name into a Web browser, the browser uses your domain name to find the correct IP address and, in turn, passes back the website associated with that IP address.

Think of it this way; your domain name functions like the contacts you store in your mobile phone. When you touch the name of a contact that’s stored in your mobile phone, your mobile phone automatically dials the number you’ve saved for that contact. You don’t need to know where the person you’re calling is located, and you don’t need to even enter their specific phone number. All you do is touch the contact and mobile phone does the rest.

Whonami-When do you use an account change for a domain name?

Use an account change in the following situations:

  • You want to move your domain name to another account with your current registrar. For example, you sold your domain name to someone who has an account with your current registrar.
  • You need to change the domain name contact’s email address and don’t have access to the account where the domain resides. For example, the account containing the domain name belongs to a former employee.

If you have access to the account — Initiate a domain name account change through the Domain Manager. For more information, see Moving a Domain Name Out of Your Account.

If you do not have access to the account — Complete the Request for Change of Account/Email Update Preparation Form. For more information, see Submitting a Change of Account/Email Update Form.

Whonami-The way to register a good domain name for your blog

Domain name extension: Try to get the “.com” Top Level Domain (TLD) extension as it is the most popular. When people think about an website their mind automatically pictures “domain-name.com” as the address. “.net” and “.org” extensions can be used too if you cannot find a “.com” extension.

Use Keywords: Use keywords in the domain name that describe your site. The domain name should suggest the nature of your product or service. A good domain name describes exactly what the site is about. It is important for a visitor to get an idea of what the website is about just by looking at the domain name. For example if your site is about antiques and collectibles then try to get a domain name like “www.antiques.com” or “www.collectibles”.com not “www.foobar.com”

Easy to remember: A domain name should be easy to remember becuase your visitors will want to type in the domain name in the web browser for revisits and if they can’t remember the domain name then you run the risk of losing potential traffic. It is also easier to spread the word of mouth when the domain name is easy to remember

Keep the domain name short: A domain name should be short with less than 10 characters. It also helps the “Easy to remember” point when the name is short. Although, these days it’s incredibly hard to get domain names that are short. Basically you don’t want to end up with a super long domain name like “www.thisisareallybadexampleofdomainname.com”. When the name gets too long it gets confusing and the name can be easily mistyped in the browser.
